AALA DESIGN CONVENTION 2022

A platform for Design Professionals, Researchers, Academicians and Students to connect and network, discussing challenges and opportunities of various Design initiatives from their ideation stage to execution.

Despite the pandemic, we were able to hold the Aala Design Convention via a series of webinars. Returning to normalcy, the Aala Design Convention is currently scheduled for June 2nd and 3rd,2022 for Open Electives and July 8th to 9th for other events, 2022, with a wide range of programmes designed to allow designers and design professionals to network and gather information on a variety of updates on design topics.

OPENELECTIVES

Open Electives was planned as a two-day certified workshop on different disciplines for design & art aspirants of any field. The electives were facilitated by eminent and renowned designers and artists.

We believe such an initiative would spread awareness about Design and its various applications, especially in this Southern part of the country.

Button masala: How to make clothes without cutting and sewing by Anuj Sharma

Can you imagine clothes without sewing? Button masala is a technique that replaces sewing and makes the construction of garments the most sustainable way. The technique involves only buttons and rubber bands. It is pretty much like the tie and dye technique but done with rubber bands. Button masala is a very quick construction method, possibly the cheapest in the world and the greenest for the environment. Each product can be recycled and restructured by simply removing the buttons and putting them in another place. The participants got trained in this technique in just one day on June 03.

Creative Storytelling by Nina Sabnani
In this elective, participants explored story-writing through found images. Based on the written narrative they explored visual methods to create media artefacts in the form of storyboards/comic strips/ illustrations/etc amongst other possibilities.

This field is a very rare field where art taste, imagination and engineering knowledge go hand in hand. This elective has let participants explore the Basics of Car Design, Glossaries, Body Styles, Proportions, Clay Modelling, Software, Perspective Drawing Techniques etc.
