Centre of Education Award 2021

“Best Private Design College in TamilNadu for Academic Excellence 2021” & “Exemplary Academic Leader of the Year 2021” Awards by Centre of Education Growth and Research

CEGR or Centre of Education Growth and Research is the leading and only educational think tank in India, credited with four innovations. With over 10,000 aligned academicians, corporates & researchers, the CEGR National Council includes Chairman-National Board of Accreditation; Regulators from AICTE; 50 Vice Chancellors from various regions of India and leading industrialists. The organization has been operating for over 10 years and has been a stalwart in recognizing educational excellence in India.

CEGR has bequeathed DOT School of Design with the prestigious award of “Best Private Design College in Tamil Nadu for Academic Excellence 2021” along with the felicitation of our Chairperson, Mr. AR.R Raammnath with “Exemplary Academic Leader of the Year 2021” award. With a strong root of experienced Advisors, Board of Directors, and Academic Heads, DOT School of Design promises to uphold & expand the standard it has set for itself in such a short period in the Design education sector.

The increasing importance of Design in multidisciplinary institutions has introduced a dire need for meritorious design education in India. But the lack of awareness of the prominence of the field, especially in Southern India has left a significant vacancy in the job market. Also, due to the lack of accessible and quality design education in Southern India, the gap between academia and the fierce requirements of the industry widened. The Chairperson along with a committee of aligned working professionals established DOT School of Design, which is Chennai’s first exclusive design college offering B.Des, M.Des, PG & UG Diploma programs in the disciplines of Industrial Design, Communication Design, Spatial Design, Textile Design, Fashion Design & Fine Arts.

Despite being new, DOT’s contribution to the proliferation of design awareness in Southern India along with its other initiatives such as INCO, the institute’s Industrial Connect Program exposes the students to the industry requirements at the earliest onset of campus life. This wouldn’t be possible without our Chairperson’s strong faith in the pedagogy that is the founding principles of DOT.  He is a strong advocate of expeditionary teaching techniques and has developed a creative environment at DOT which enables the students to learn outside of classrooms with hands-on practical experience. An ardent educator and a strong leader, Mr. Raammnath has held the position of Manager, Leader and Executive in renowned Architectural Firms. He has also been trained under Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Pondicherry, on several renovation and revitalization projects.

National Education Excellence Award

“Leading & Most Promising Design College of the Year 2021” & “Outstanding Virtual Knowledge Delivery During Pandemic” awards by National Education Excellence Awards & Conference

In the midst of the pandemic, when the world had come to a standstill, the academicians’ mettle was put to test. Propagating learning and education is quintessential during a child’s and young adult’s developmental phases. Realizing this, the academicians at DOT were proactive in devising effective online learning which wouldn’t compromise on the quality of the course.

Along with swift pandemic measures and for its performance in the Design education sector of South India, DOT was awarded the “Leading & Most Promising Design College of the Year 2021” and “Outstanding Virtual Knowledge Delivery During Pandemic” awards in the National Education Excellence Award Ceremony & Conference organized by Begin-Up Research Intelligence.

Design being a hands-on course, it was challenging to come up with a solution that effectively delivered the knowledge virtually. At the early onset of the pandemic, online classes were announced and the institute ensured the safe transportation of all their students to their homes and hometowns. College was closed shortly afterward and hence began their tryst with online classes and different mediums of education. Both the staff and students were supportive of the change and hence the adaptation to the new norm of classroom education was made efficient.

After the government relaxed the lockdown, offline classes were resumed with minimal students. Only Masters and B.Sc students were asked to resume sessions offline. The institute was sanitized every day. Social distancing and masks became mandatory along with screening the temperatures of the guests at the entrance.

DOT School of Design’s prolific contributions to the expansion of Design education and awareness in India, especially Southern India, was made possible by its extensive initiatives such as CLAP, INCO & Fablab. Creative Learning Assistance Program (CLAP) helps students from government schools to transpile their creative education dreams into realities even if they don’t have the means to pursue them. 100% Scholarships are offered to deserving candidates through a Creative Quotient examination.

Industrial Connect Program or INCO was established to give the students of DOT the opportunity to understand the workings of the industries via multiple projects, internships, workshops & guest lectures. The AALA division of INCO aims at creating a Design Hub in the metropolitan city of Chennai so that design has more visibility and all resources are made available to the budding designers in the country.

DOT’s honest contributions to the proliferation of the design field were recognized by the committee members and hence was felicitated with these two prestigious awards. DOT’s grateful for the honor and promises to uphold the design doctrine as dreamt by Nehru when the Nation was rebuilt post-colonization.

DOT School of Design was established to bridge the gap between academia and the fierce requirements of the Design industry. The learning culture at DOT provides expeditionary teaching techniques which facilitates hands-on experience for the students. The Industry Connect (INCO) Program at DOT directly involves the students and experts from the industry to synergize and collaborate on projects. The professionals can also be a part of the syllabus formulation process. INCO aims at building a Design Hub in the Metropolitan city of Chennai through their networking division, ‘AALA’. The Fablab Initiative at DOT provides a space for independent designers and creators to use the College resources for their projects on a subscription and can collaborate with the students for the same. The Creative Learning Assistance Program, or CLAP, is the institute’s outreach program which initiates school students from all socio-economic backgrounds to receive creative education which helps in their overall skill development. Along with their creative education modules, CLAP also provides 100% Scholarship to deserving candidates through their Creative Quotient examination.

When Nehru predicted Design education was the future of India, he helped set up the first design institute in India. But ‘Design Education’ took a backseat despite ‘Design’ being a forerunner in every field known to man. Years later, Mr. Raammnath, the Chairman of DOT School of Design, instituted Chennai’s first exclusive Design college to provide quality design education to the people of India, especially Southern India

Despite the lockdown, setbacks and hurdles, the institute has managed to achieve what it was instituted for, which is to spread Design Awareness to the population of Southern India and to offer Quality Design Education to the students, thereby aiding in the Nation Building process. Having recognised this, Indian Achievers Forum, the prestigious committee that promotes and encourages trailblazers from various fields who contribute to Nation Building, has bequeathed DOT School of Design with the ‘Shiksha Bharati Award, 2021’.
